One bloke, one van, one name on it

The reviews all name the same person.

Ring Eagles and you get Nathan. Every review on this page describes him turning up and doing the work himself, which is a better guide to how a tradesman works than anything written about him.

The work covers the whole life of a split system. Putting a new one in, keeping an old one running, and getting a dead one going again. Every photograph on this page was published by the business itself, so these are its own jobs rather than stock pictures of somebody else's.

Locally owned and operated in the Hunter, based in Weston, and available on the phone when most places have shut for the day.

What Eagles does

Six things, done properly, on split systems.

If you are not sure which of these you need, ring and describe what the unit is doing.

01

Split system installation

New wall-mounted heads and outdoor condensers. The install photographs further down show how the finished job is left: level on the wall, and the conduit run boxed in rather than stapled across the brickwork.

02

Breakdown repairs

Units that will not start, will not cool, or trip out. Electrical fault finding on the indoor board and the outdoor unit, with a meter on it rather than a guess.

03

Servicing and cleaning

Filters pulled out and washed, covers and flaps stripped back and cleaned, coils cleared. It is the part people skip, and it is the part that quietly costs them.

04

Checking the rest of the system

While the unit is open, the rest of it gets a look. One customer's review describes a second fault found in the roof space that would have cost a great deal more later.

05

Controller upgrades

Replacing and upgrading the wall controller so the system is actually usable, rather than living with a controller that half works.

06

Out of hours callouts

The listing says open 24 hours, seven days, and the reviews back it up: one customer was seen on a Sunday, another on Christmas Eve.

Servicing

The half of the job nobody sees.

A split system does not usually announce that it needs a service. It just quietly moves less air, runs longer to get to the same temperature, and puts whatever is living in the filter back into the room.

A service here means the covers come off. Filters out and washed, the front cover and flap stripped and cleaned, the coil cleared. The photograph beside this is one job's front cover, before and after.

  • Filters removed, washed and refitted
  • Cover and flap cleaned back
  • Coil and fins cleared
  • The rest of the system looked over while it is open

Left too long

This is what the inside of a neglected unit looks like.

Packed fins, corrosion on the copper, and airflow that has nowhere to go. A coil in this condition makes the whole system work harder for a worse result, and it does not recover on its own.

It is also entirely avoidable. If it has been a few years since anyone opened yours, that is the phone call to make before summer rather than during it.

Repairs and fault finding

A dead unit is usually a component, not a write-off.

Systems that will not start, will not cool, or keep tripping out can fail on the electrical side as easily as the refrigeration side. Finding out which means putting a meter on the board and reading what it says.

The board in this photograph has a capacitor that has given up, which is visible the moment the cover comes off if you know what you are looking at. That is a part, not a new system.

Ring and describe the symptom, and it can be looked at properly from there.

One failed capacitor, found with the cover off.

Installs

A tidy install is the bit you live with.

Anyone can hang a head unit on a wall. The difference shows in where the pipework runs, whether the conduit is boxed in or stapled across the brickwork, and whether the outdoor unit sits level on something that will still be there in ten years.

The outdoor half of the same kind of job, with the run boxed in and taken straight up to the roof line.
An older outdoor condenser unit mounted on a brick wall
Not every job is a new system. Some of it is keeping an existing outdoor unit going instead of replacing it.
Worth knowing

One review sums up how a job usually goes.

“Nathan came out on a Sunday to diagnose an issue with our aircon, then was able to fit us in the next day (3 days before Christmas!) to install our new aircon.”

I can’t recommend Nathan enough! To start, he came to assist us on Christmas Eve!! What a champ! Then today, he’s upgraded our control unit with upmost professionalism and respect for not only myself, but for my family and my home! 10 out of 10! Thanks Nathan!

We couldn't recommend Nathan enough. He's everything you want in a tradesman - punctual, honest and so friendly. Nathan came out on a Sunday to diagnose an issue with our aircon, then was able to fit us in the next day (3 days before Christmas!) to install our new aircon. We couldn't be happier with his work and will be using Nathan for all of our air conditioning needs from now on, as well as recommending him to everyone we know. Thanks again Nathan!

Nathan did a fantactic job fixing an issue with the AC in our house. He was able to fit us in quickly (the morning after I contacted him). While on site he identified another issue with the unit in the roof space, if it had not been addressed it would have lead to much greater and costly repairs in the future. I highly recomment Nathan for your AC needs. Thank you Nathan!

Our air conditioning died in the peak of summer and Nathan came out the very next day to replace the unit at a great price. Fast, reliable service and we’re really happy with the result. We’ll definitely be using him again in the future.
